SLR stands for Single Lens Reflex, which allows you as the photographer to see exactly what the picture will look like. Regular cameras have two optical paths, one from the lens to the film and one a little to the side for the photographer to see. SLR Cameras use a system of mirrors to allow the photographer to see the exact same path. However, the birth of the LCD on point and shoot digital cameras has made this an everyday advantage of most digital cameras.

So what makes the Professional SLR Digital Cameras stand out?

1.       Digital SLR’s have interchangeable lenses, which means you can take pictures with an incredibly high zoom or capture a wide angle landscape and everything in between.  With the right lens you can also soak up much more light which gives you the ability to capture and focus pictures in low light.

2.       They have high end image sensors and lots of Mega Pixels that allow you to take high quality photos which you can make small or large scale prints of.

3.       SLR’s have mechanical shutters which allows them to snap pictures faster which makes for crisp action photos.

4.       Most Digital SLR Cameras today are have tons of highly configurable settings if you want to get serious about photography, if you don’t then just flip it over to auto and snap away.

The real advantage of Professional SLR Digital Cameras is versatility. You can not only take more professional looking photos, but there is a lot of freedom when it comes to what you can do and the options available when taking a photo. This is compounded by the amount of accessories, lenses and other upgrades you can attach to them to get your desired effect.  With an SLR camera you can take action pictures and low light (without the flash!) pictures that are virtually impossible to do well with a point and shoot camera. And over the last few years the price of Professional SLR Digital Cameras has fallen dramatically. There are now some great options in the $600 – $700 range that are beginning to compete in price with high end point and shoot cameras. If you are in the market for a new camera, it’s not a bad time to take a look at getting an SLR Digital Camera instead of just a regular digital camera. However, SLR Cameras are much larger than many of the pocket size cameras on the market today. Honestly, I like the size and feeling of the Professional Digital SLR Cameras as they give you a better grip and allow you to keep a steady hand. You definitely won’t regret it when you see the quality that the SLR Digital Cameras can produce.

Nikon D2xs Nikon D60 camera http://www.microglobe.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?pName=nikon-d80 Two and a half years ago Nikon publicized the 6 megapixel Nikon D70, their first reasonable enthusiasts digital SLR, it proved to be a very well-known camera and strong competitor to the Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel). Just 15 months later Nikon revealed the Nikon D70s which was basically the same camera with a some subtle tweaks (improved AF, wider flash coverage, higher capacity battery, larger LCD monitor). And so just over 15 months on from the D70s Nikon present the latest incarnation of their ‘enthusiasts’ digital SLR line, the 10.2 megapixel Nikon D80.

The Nikon D80 slots nicely between the entry-level Nikon D50 and the semi-professional / professional Nikon D200, clearly based on the D70 design but also different enough to be seen as a completely new model. It features a ten megapixel DX format CCD (the same we presume as used by Sony in the DSLR-A100), the metering sensor from the D50 and numerous other items taken or modified from the D200. Nikon D2Hs and D2H are also wonderful cameras.Duration : 0:5:8

Professional SLR Digital

17 October 2008

You’re curious about photography. You want to take photos that look like a professional took them, and you’re not worried about price. You think you could either go with digital cameras or traditional film cameras. Okay. So you go to the store. Suddenly, you find yourself bombarded by acronyms: SLR, FL-X, XTi…yikes!

Where does an aspiring photo professional start? Well, let’s start with the following idea: the only critical difference between cameras, aside from the film vs. digital options, is this: professional SLR digital cameras will allow your eye to see exactly what the camera is seeing. Point-and-shoot cameras, well, they allow you to point…and shoot.

The difference isn’t enormous, but for a persnickety professional digital photographer, it’s big enough. So now let’s work on decoding the only acronym that matters to someone shopping for cameras. It’s important to know that SLR means single lens reflex. The SLR cameras do almost exactly what that definition says; it allows the SLR camera to use one lens to show you exactly what’s going to be printed on the film when you look through the lens. That’s really all you need to know.

Now you need to decide whether you want to go the route of digital cameras or cameras that use traditional film. The beauty of digital cameras is that they can be valuable learning tools. You can see immediately whether you’ve shot a lousy amateur photo or a professional quality photo. That kind of on-the-spot return is really nice, isn’t it?

But then, there’s also something to be said for the real film cameras, whether they be SLR or regular point-and-shoot cameras. You shoot, you get the film developed, and you might find a little gem of a professional-quality photograph just sitting there where you didn’t even know you had one in the viewfinder. What a nice present. And you can be assured that you’re doing it in the same time-honored way that the professional photographers did it, all those years ago.

The more of a selection there is in the market place, the more likely you are to find a digital SLR camera that fits your budget.
