Best Professional SLR Digital Cameras

I am looking to purchase a Nikon D40 and there are several kits available that comes with extra lenses. I am only just beginning to get into photography and do not understand what each lens does. The camera comes standard with a 18-55 mm lens. But there are kits with 55-200 mm lenses or telephoto lenses or wide angle lenses…

Could someone explain to me what each Lens is used for so I can get a better sense of which lens is the best for me?

I am thinking about attending there are two days of instruction, but it is pretty pricey around $150 each day. The first day is to teach basics on the digital slr camera and the second is about software programs to enhance your photos etc. Has anyone taken these courses, are they worth the price? I am not a complete beginner, just need some additional instruction, would these benefit me?

I am considering, eventually to make profit with photography, but my budget for now is restricted. Do you think I can start in the photography business with a D70. Which other SLR cameras that can be affordable should I consider?

To earn money when I graduate I understand I will have to broaden my skills into journalistic as well as portrait etc photography.
The current camera I have is a Canon powershot A640, its a good simple 10 megapixel camera but I need something more professional. I have used media format and SLR camera’s in the past so now Im thinking Digital SLR.

My friend has a Nikon digital SLR and its lush, a really good camera. Does anyone have any tips on the best Nikon SLR on a budget of £300-£600? Thanks!

As a person with no allegiance to any specific make, I find their dominating digital market share a bit intriguing.

I understand Nikon and Canon have dominated the film scene for many years, but I can’t figure out why they still have such a large following on the digital format. The cameras they design are built like film cameras which happen to store digitally, like staying to the 3:2 format, and such. Other companies are moving to a more computer friendly 4:3 format, and building digital cameras from the ground up to suit their purpose. It would seem to me that if someone wanted to shoot digitally, they would want to shoot with a camera made specifically to do just that, right?

I’m not bashing Canon and Nikon (I own a Canon and a Nikon film SLR), but I just don’t understand it. Is it because all these photographers who used to shoot on film are familiar with the Canon and Nikon feel, and don’t want to buy new lenses, or is it because they still have the best product?

How can I take multiple exposures over 2 seconds on a Nikon D60 slr?

I have been trying to capture rain using my Nikon D80 camera with various differnet lenses but not too successful at it. ANy suggestions?

I have a lens from my Nikon N2000 that I want to use on my D60, but when I put the lens on it says that there is no lens attached. Can you use it? Do you have to put it on a certain setting?

Also I am having people asking me about senior photos. I am looking at purchasing a Nikon D40, D40X or D80. My funds are tight, so I was wondering if I really need the D80 and if the 40’s will work?
